Paul Cluver
Paul Karl Clüver is the Managing Director of De Rust Estate, a multifaceted agricultural business in Grabouw, South Africa, known for its fruit farming, wine production, and livestock operations. A graduate of the University of Stellenbosch with a B.Sc. Agric in Horticulture and Economics, Paul also completed a Senior Management Program and holds a B.Phil. in Value and Policy Studies.
In addition to his role at De Rust Estate, Paul has led Paul Clüver Family Wines since 2000, a wine division of the estate that is widely recognized as one of South Africa’s leading producers of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery is a pioneer of the Elgin appellation, helping to establish the region as a premium cool-climate winegrowing area.

1. De Rust Estate (Pty) Ltd – Director since 1998. The estate is a pioneering family business in fruit and wine production, recognized for its sustainable practices and high standards. De Rust was among the first in South Africa to receive Nature's Choice (Tesco) and Eurogap accreditations. The estate also boasts a top-rated Hereford stud and various agri-tourism initiatives.
2. Kromco (Pty) Ltd – Vice Chair and Chair of the Risk and Audit Committee since 2003. Kromco is one of the leading deciduous fruit packing facilities in the Western Cape, known for its quality fruit supply chain and strong social responsibility programs. The facility is highly rated for its standards and supplies to top UK supermarket chains.
3. APL Cartons (Pty) Ltd – Director since 2021. APL Cartons manufactures corrugated cartons for various industries, including wine, food, and industrial products. The company is a collaborative venture between major agricultural entities in South Africa.
4. Cape Wine Auction – Trustee, Vice Chair, and Chair since 2016. This significant charity event unites the wine industry to raise funds for educational initiatives across South Africa, making a profound impact on local communities.
5. Grabouw Development Agency (GDA) – Director since 2020. GDA aims to diversify and grow the economy of the Grabouw/Elgin Valley through sustainable and inclusive commercial investment.
6. Lebanon Fruit Farm Trust and Thandi Wines (Pty) Ltd – Former Director and Chairman. Thandi Wines, the first Fairtrade accredited wine brand, focuses on empowering disadvantaged communities and reinvesting profits into community development, embodying ethical trading and quality.
7. Lebanon Community Trust – Trustee since 2006. The trust supports the empowerment of the Lebanon Community, focusing on helping residents become homeowners and enhancing community welfare.
8. Hortgro Pome – Director since 2016. Hortgro is an industry body representing South Africa's fruit sector, focusing on research, development, and market support to enhance the industry’s competitiveness and sustainability.
9. SAPO Trust – Trustee since 2022. The South African Plant Improvement Organisation promotes plant breeding and improvement efforts to ensure high-quality agricultural products in South Africa, supporting sustainable agriculture.
10. Wesgro – Director since 2023. Wesgro is the official economic development agency for the Western Cape, promoting trade, investment, and tourism to drive regional economic growth.
